Off we go again, with a fine start to 2010. The Boating course is running, under the excellent supervision of Bruce "Lynn's Butler" Leavitt. We are looking forward to the On the Water Practical on March 21 st . Boating course students should be particularly excited as this will be the peak day of the course, a chance to put your new navigation skills to good use in our friendly local waters. A shout out too, to the Marine Maintenance students. I will be seeing you for the lectures on Lubrication and Cooling. The JN course is also under way. Sextants at hand, meridian transits to measure, and GPs plotted, we're in good hands with Lawrence leading us.
As for many of you, boating is a year round activity for me. But for some reason, winter has its special dates and pleasures. I have already had the fun of the New Year's Day race in English Bay, and my first sailing weekend of the year with good friends sailing up the coast of Bowen Island to Gibson's for an annual visit to Gibson's Landing Marina and of course, Gramma's Pub.
Speaking of looking forward, we have plans afoot for the Easter Cruise to Snug, then Canada's unofficial Canada Day (May 24 th , the 2-4 weekend . get it?) in Silva Bay, the Canada Day Gulf Island Cruise and of course the biggie, the 2 week cruise to Octopus Islands. I look forward to seeing many of you at one or all of those events. (As of now, Jeanette and I are planning on attending all of them!)
And of course, coming up quickly, the AGM and COW on April 17 th . We'll give you many reminders along the way, but mark your calendars now for our only mandatory meeting and then the fun that is always to be had at the COW. . who will be this year's recipient of the Green Jacket?
Cheers!
