Ahoy, Boating Student
Congratulations on taking the first step towards safe, enjoyable boating by enrolling in
a CPS Boating course! Upon passing the exam, you will become eligible to join the Port Moody Power & Sail Squadron, which will automatically make you a member of Canadian Power & Sail Squadrons (“CPS”), the national organization. So why should you join CPS?
All it will cost you is $52/year about a dime a day (half of that for a family member). We strongly urge you to join us in the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron! Benefits
There are many advantages to CPS membership, including:
- Regular notification of Squadron activities, by mail, email and by phone. Subscription to Quarterdeck, the Squadron's quarterly newsletter.
- Six issues per year of Pacific Yachting magazine, which include Propwash, the Pacific Mainland District newsletter, containing news of other squadrons. (The other six issues are available at the special discounted rate of $1.83 per issue).
- Boats & Places, a quarterly Canada-wide publication which includes The Port Hole, the national CPS news and information journal.
- The annual Roster, which lists all CPS members in Pacific Mainland District, including a listing by boat name.
- The opportunities to further expand your boating knowledge through CPS advanced and elective courses, and to pass on your knowledge through proctoring or lecturing.

- The right to fly the CPS flag. (Police and Coast Guard recognize the CPS flag as meaning the vessel has a knowledgeable skipper).

- 2.5% additional discount for each of any three other courses successfully completed

Preamble to
the Membership Pledge
You
have passed the Canadian Power & Sail
Squadrons’ (CPS) qualifying examination and are
now ready to be a member of the Port Moody Power
& Sail Squadron. As we welcome you into this nationwide
organization, we remind you that there are safe
boating obligations
which you will be pledged to fulfill. Your pledge
affirms your commitment to advancing skills in the
care and handling of boats, with regard for the
rights and comfort of others. It commits you to the regulations of CPS and
it confirms your allegiance to ideals that will
enhance the image of our organization. Accordingly,
we ask you to make the following pledge.
"I solemnly pledge to loyally
support Canadian Power & Sail Squadrons, to
promote high standards, of navigation and
seamanship, to operate all boats in a legal and
environmentally friendly manner, to render assistance
whenever possible, and to conduct myself in a manner
that will add prestige and respect to the
organization whose flag I am now privileged to
fly."
